Gerastos of Morocco
Order Proetida
Family Proetidae
Genus Gerastos
These rather inconspicuous trilobites are locally so common that diggers refer to them as 'izzi' (flies). Their common occurrence however, makes these trilobites invaluable for scientific research. For an introduction to common Gerastos of Morocco, see Gibb & Chatterton (2010).

Name: Gerastos tuberculatus marocensis Chatterton et al, 2006
Stratigraphy: Timrhanrhart formation, Emsian
Locality: Foum Zguid
The glabella on this Gerastos shows a much coarser tuberculation as compared to the segments. There is a distinct tuberculated subocular ridge and the librigane end in a short but distinct spine. The overview of different specimens in Gibb & Chatterton (2010) seems to indicate a fair amount of morphological variation in this subspecies.
