Name: Dicranurus monstrosus Barrande, 1852
Stratigraphy: Dicranurus couche, Ihandar formation, Pragian
Locality: Oued Atchana
One of the most iconic Moroccan trilobites. This species was first described by Joachim Barrande, based on material from the Bohemian region, Czech Republic. There are indications that its large recurving occipital horns might have served as a substrate for epibionts like algae and sponges, which served as camouflage for the trilobite, as argued by Kloc (1992).
