Diademaproetus of Morocco

Subfamily Cornuproetinae

This common genus is characterized by a pair of elongated genal spines and a broad cephalic border with a well-defined preglabellar field, in some cases bearing an anterior protrusion. The prosopon often comprises a combination of tubercles and terraces lines. The thorax bears 10 segments.

This trilobite has a small spatulate extension on the anterior cephalic margin.

This trilobite has a very distinct, elongated spatulate extension on the anterior cephalic margin.

Name: Diademaproetus issoumourensis Molinaro, 2012
Stratigraphy: Tazoulaït formation, Emsian
Locality: Jebel Issoumour

A strongly granulated Diademaproetus with flat cephalic border, and lacking a distinct anterior protrusion. From the 'Psychopyge horizon' at Jebel Issoumour. D. issoumourensis is considered a nomen nudum, as the species has not yet been formally described.

Locality: Jebel Sardrar (sometimes referred to as 'Saredrar' or 'Serdrar')

This trilobite lacks the distinct spatulate extension on the anterior cephalic margin, that is typical for many other species in this genus. Otherwise, it is very similar to D. praecursor. The specimen shown here was embedded in a coarse-grained limestone and is ventrolaterally compressed.
