Name: Huginarges sp.
Stratigraphy: Villé Formation, Pragian
Locality: Longlier, Belgium
Huginarges was an unexpected trilobite genus in the Belgian Pragian. These specimens were described by van Viersen & Prescher (2009, Bull. de l'IRSNB) who underlined the exchange of trilobite associations on the northern and southern margins of the Rheic Ocean during most of the Lower Devonian. Trilobites formerly referred to Lobopyge were previously transferred to Belenopyge. Lobopyge is a preoccupied name for an extant millipede genus and therefore could no longer be used for trilobites. Recently, van Viersen (2021) showed Belenopyge and the trilobite Lobopyge to be distinct genera. He suggested the use of Huginarges as replacement name for Lobopyge.
