Name: Belenopyge sp.
Stratigraphy: Villé Formation, Pragian
Locality: Longlier, Belgium
Belenopyge was an unexpected trilobite genus in the Belgian Pragian. These specimens were described by van Viersen & Prescher (2009, Bull. de l'IRSNB) who underlined the exchange of trilobite associations on the northern and southern margins of the Rheic Ocean during most of the Lower Devonian. Trilobites formerly referred to Lobopyge were transferred to Belenopyge. Lobopyge is a preoccupied name for an extant millipede genus and therefore can no longer be used for trilobites.
